Short answer: AfterShip Returns & Exchanges suits stores that want return shipping handled inside the returns app, or a free plan their shoppers pay for. Its paid plans start at $19 a month for 20 returns and charge for each return above that. Comeback is a flat-priced, exchange-first returns app with an EU withdrawal form that works without a customer login. At 100 returns a month with automatic approval, AfterShip lists $59 and Comeback $19. We make Comeback; every AfterShip figure below comes from its Shopify App Store listing, read on 1 October 2026.
Who AfterShip fits
AfterShip's listing shows three plans. Return Care is free for the merchant: the shopper pays for the return and AfterShip takes a revenue share, handling the return labels itself, which Comeback doesn't do. Essentials costs $19 a month for 20 returns, plus $0.50 for each extra return, and lists in-app automatic labels (Comeback has no labels), automatic returns approval, refunds and exchanges. Premium costs $119 a month for 100 returns, plus $1 for each extra return, and adds fraud prevention among other features.
That makes AfterShip a natural fit for a store with a small number of returns a month, or one that wants shoppers to fund their own returns, and for any store that needs the returns app to produce shipping labels, which Comeback doesn't.
Where Comeback differs
- No fee per return. AfterShip's paid plans charge $0.50 or $1 for each return above the plan. Comeback never does: each plan approves a set number of requests a month automatically (10, 100, 400 or 2,000), and the rest wait for your review at no extra cost. A busy December costs the same as a quiet February.
- Exchange first, in a fixed order. Before a refund, your customer sees a swap for another size or colour of the same item, a different item from a set you choose (Starter and above), and store credit with an optional bonus (Starter and above). On EEA orders the refund stays available for 14 days after delivery.
- An EU withdrawal form for guest orders. A footer link labelled "Withdraw from contract here" ("Vertrag widerrufen" in German) opens a form that needs no customer login, free and unlimited on every plan. AfterShip's listing doesn't name an EU withdrawal button or form. See how the form works.
- A merchant-side free plan. Comeback Free costs $0 and isn't funded by your shoppers. It approves 10 requests a month automatically and handles any number above that by your review.

Cost basis: the lowest-priced listed plan (plus any listed fee per return) that covers that volume, among plans whose listing names automatic approval. Return Care isn't in the figures because the shopper funds it. Questions to settle before you choose
- Do you need the returns app to create return labels? AfterShip does; Comeback doesn't.
- How many returns do you get in your busiest month, and what would the fee per return add?
- Should your shoppers or your store pay for returns?
- Do you sell to customers in the EU, and how do guest buyers withdraw without signing in?
