Why we use Shopify's native store credit
Comeback offers store credit as a resolution using Shopify's own native store credit system — not gift cards, and not a separate ledger we invent. That means credit your customers receive:
- shows up automatically in their Shopify customer account;
- can be spent at checkout, in full, alongside other payment methods;
- doesn't require any extra app or integration on your part.
Before you can offer it
Store credit needs to be turned on for your shop, and it isn't available on legacy customer accounts (see Enabling New Customer Accounts).
To enable it:
- In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Customer accounts → Store credit.
- Turn it on.
- Back in Comeback, the homepage check will detect this automatically the next time it loads.
If store credit isn't enabled, the store-credit resolution is hidden from customers in Path A and Path B, and Comeback shows a setup link instead.
Fees to be aware of
If your Shopify store was created after 2025-05-12, Shopify charges third-party transaction fees on amounts paid using store credit at checkout, same as it would for a gift card. This is a Shopify-level fee on your store, not a Comeback charge — see Shopify's own store credit documentation for current rates. Comeback doesn't add anything on top.
Currency
Store credit is issued in the order's presentment currency. If you sell in multiple currencies, a customer's credit balance follows the currency their original order was placed in.
Bonus credit
On the Starter plan and above, you can offer a bonus (0-20%) when a customer chooses store credit over a refund — set this per region group in Rules per region group.
If store credit isn't right for you yet
At MVP, Comeback doesn't offer a gift-card fallback — that's planned for a later release if enough merchants need it. Until then, customers without store credit enabled on your store will only see refund and (where eligible) exchange options.
