If your store hasn't switched to New Customer Accounts yet, here's exactly what Comeback does and doesn't do for you.
What works
- The EU withdrawal form (Path B) works fully — it runs on your storefront and never requires a customer login, regardless of your account type.
- The withdrawal log, export, and merchant alerts all work normally.
- You can still install, set up billing, and configure region-group rules.
What doesn't work yet
- Self-service returns and exchanges (Path A) are disabled. The signed-in "Return or exchange" flow depends on Shopify's Customer Account API, which legacy accounts don't support.
- Native Shopify store credit isn't available on legacy accounts either, independent of Comeback.
Why we don't build a workaround
Shopify's own Built for Shopify rules require buyer-facing self-service return/exchange experiences to authenticate through the Customer Account API starting 1 December 2026. Building a separate legacy-account portal would mean building something we'd have to remove again shortly after — so we don't. The acknowledgement email for Path B simply leaves out the "sign in to exchange instead" invitation on legacy-account stores, since there's nothing to sign into yet.
How to unlock Path A
Switch to New Customer Accounts — see Enabling New Customer Accounts for the two-step process, and click "Re-check" in Comeback afterward. No reinstall is needed.
